5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome unit, step up from smaller Show 5

I imported 2x Echo Show 8's from UK. They are awesome displays for family photos, audio is x10 better and are otherwise identical to the smaller Show5's. Yes, the clock display cant be set to full screen. Minor grumble.
PROS. Purchased this on early pre release @ 50% off suggested retail price. Audio quality is a district improvement over my Amazon Echo Spot. Setup was simple and achieved in minutes, however as a disclaimer, having experienced setting up my other Alexa devices, the set-up was merely a formality to add this device and consequently previous data gathered by Amazon/Alexa which became immediately available to this device. CONS. Without a friendly manual or easily discoverable web-link available on my Amazon account, it is a very long and tedious process to see what other 'Skills' (apps) and functions are available for these devices. There are titles written by 3rd parties, however these are available for purchase only from their Amazon US site. Considering the amount of profit that Amazon must be making from these devices and accessories, (the stand for this device is A$39.95 for a two-piece bit of plastic), one would think that they could afford to produce a user manual documentation be it printed paper or digital.
I have an Echo Show 5 and an Echo Show 8. The 5 displays the date but the 8 does not. The idea of a device on the kitchen bench that is all-encompassing is desirable and the Echo Shows do that for the most part but the absence of the date on the 8’s display is bewildering.
To continue the feedback theme, both devices go into sleep mode automatically at night, but if you display a slideshow of photos from Amazon Photos during the day, there does not appear to be a way of customising the font size and colour of the time display in sleep mode. The time on my 5 beside my bed was a difficult-to-read small dull red. I don’t wear classes in bed so the display should not be odd, dull colours because I have an Amazon Photos slideshow
i've owned Google home for ages but switched and i think her voice sounds more cranky and she seems mean at times, but Alexa has a soothing voice and seems to be more kind, i love how you can program Alexa with skills vs Google that does it's own thing minus community additions..i would give a 5 on score but i feel like if i pump volume to full it might break speakers so i put it to 80 percent no higher, that said you can add other speakers to this, not saying speakers are crap either i just dont think it would handle too high, there's so much i could say how cool this device is, i've linked it to amazon music having prime myself ..its way better then googles options, i get no ads or high prices for music steaming sites like i would with google home ..i havent tried calls yet to comment but i did call in to my device while away to use camera to check out for thieves..does an amazing job there as a security camera :) , i have great control with smart lights too. if you purchase this device make sure you plug power plug in hard, when i got mine it fitted into power socket and thought that it was plugged in right but i thought it was faulty then discovered it needs a hard push(not too hard) of plug into socket when you first get it...its a great device really worth getting and like i've said i do prefer this to googles offerings
I already have an echo show 5 and use that as a bedside echo. It's well suited and customised to the purpose. The 8 has some pros such as better sound and screen large enough to enjoy watching prime video. Perhaps the best use is video calling family during this time of restrictions on travel. But it is a bit less customised - why no neat clock faces like the show 5. And seriously they need to figure out a youtube app.
Picked up my new Echo today - my first Amazon device - initially disappointed that my prime membership account is not recognised with no way to open Prime Video. Contact from amazon tech resulted in glitch resolved; a default factory reset and firmware update helped. On the plus side, the screen is great and speaker sound very decent. Alexa has no trouble understanding me. Enjoying the product fully - within the Australian limits. I recommend getting the stand as really does help. One star off because there is no keyboard search function within YouTube or Prime Video, Music etc.
Great quality and super easy to set up. Responds very quickly. Huge let down for me was the very poor clock interface with no customisation unlike it's little brother the show 5 which is excellent. Can't understand why Amazon did this, just hope there is an update soon. Come on Amazon I'm not alone in this, just take note of the reviews.
Great for Skype calls etc. I use it as a radio, clock, reminder etc. Shame you can't access your photos on your computer or add a card with photos so you can use it as a digital photo frame without having to use Alexa/Amazon photos. Could be programmable.
This is our first Amazon Echo product and it works reasonably well but we could do with more instructions on what it can be used for (skills). The main thing we've found it helpful for is adding items to our shopping list, but I'm sure we will find more useful stuff over time.
I have liked this product. The only reason for 4stars is that I haven’t yet been able to work out how to scroll through recipes. Probably my problem (file 40). By this I mean the person 40cm from the screen. Other than that a great product.
