I ordered both sizes not knowing which would be better for a newly adopted Amstaff. She's very strong and muscular, and pulls like a sled dog so I thought the larger one would be better/stronger. Wrong. The thinner one actually works better for corrections. Imagine a wire clothesline vs a towel around your neck; which would get your attention faster? I know that's not apples-to-apples, but you get the picture. She responds better to the thinner one. Also, these rope leads have a certain amount of "give" or stretch to them. The larger one stretches more so corrections aren't as effective. The construction appears to be good, no real problems yet. The faux leather (that's right, not real leather) tab that slides to keep it from coming off the head is large enough so it doesn't go through the ring. It doesn't stay in place when the rope stretches, so a couple stitches of thread can remedy that. Reflectiveness is good. Have used multiple times daily for two weeks to go potty and for training. No abrasions, fraying, or anything yet. Will update the review should I run into any issues. I can't seem to keep it up high on the neck but I don't think that's the product's fault. When she pulls, I would imagine any rope slip lead would slide down. Still working on it; maybe a poly kennel lead would be better. I recommend the smaller diameter lead for training. Sent the larger one back. Will order another small one to keep handy should this one prove to hold up.
This lead looked to be very well-made but I can't speak to its durability as I couldn't keep it. The leash was supposed to be 5' long (I really preferred 6'), but it actually measured out from dog's neck to end of leash close to 4' long. Even if you were to include the length going around the dog's neck, it STILL wasn't 5'. And anyway, that should not be included in the leash length figure! If it says it is a 5' leash, you expect your dog to be able to get 5' away from you.
This is the best leash I have owned and trust me I have tried dozens. I have a strong puller and have been unable to break him. I love walking and taking Harley with me but he made it totally unpleasant. I used this leash as soon as soon as I got it and on what a pleasant walk we had. He did not pullback all. Our groomer recommended this type so thought what have I got to loose. Product is fantastic. Delivery was fast only problem driver said it was handed directly to customer and that was incorrect. In this case I got it but had she handed it to anyone else I may not have gotten it.
I bought two of these leashes for my 30 pound Aussie puppy and my 5 year old 60 pound Aussie Mix. They have a slight stretch but not too much where I feel like they get the sensation to pull me while out on a walk. The diameter of the leash is perfect!! As we have had these type of leashes in the past but they have been too thick. The leather piece that secures the loop has been durable and easy to slide up and down the leash. We’ve now had these for a few months and they still look and feel brand new!
I purchased this leash for use in a kennel/vet's office, and it has held up to everything from power-chewing puppies to tugging 100+lb adult dogs. I just purchased a second one in turquoise because I use the lavender one so often.
I have some of these from another brand, and the build quality of this unit does not compare. The rope is a very lightweight, stretchy type. I don’t see any visible stitches. I have three large, strong pulling dogs. I’m not willing to see if these are good enough or not. The risk if one or more dogs get loose is not worth it to me. They’ve broken other leashes. I was hoping for something similar to the previous leashes I picked up several years ago from Amazon, they are made with real rope, and have stitching visible so you know they’re not going to break. It’s getting more difficult to find quality items on Amazon. Everything seems to have a ton of extremely positive reviews, but the quality simply doesn’t measure up to the hype.
If you have smaller, or extremely well trained dogs, these leashes are probably fine. If you have strong dogs with questionable manners, I would opt for something of a higher quality.
it’s a very thick and well made slip leash. it’s not the color i thought it was gonna be. i would have liked more of a light lilac color like shown in the product pictures but i guess it’s okay since my dog is definitely gonna get it dirty. the reflective material is a plus.
Needed these leashes for the pet shelter. They work great! They fit around my shoulder and are easy to use to help even the most stubborn dogs stay on track with walking. The colors are vibrant and the reflectors are cool. The leather doesn’t slip either, even with all the pulling.
We have 6 dogs (7 at the time of purchase) and one being a new puppy in training. These are amazing! We got the thinner ones for our little guys and the thicker ones for our big guys. Easy to wipe and keep vibrant and cute in our rainy/muddy season. Super durable. They look so nice too, the pictures don't do them justice.
