Great buy - basically all you need for aquascaping. The PH papers are not great however - and I would always recommend using a different method for a more accurate reading in your aquarium, but overall this is excellent value for the money. Particularly as in Singapore (where I live) they are charging this price for x1 tool!! Hope this helps :)
I was skeptical buying this because it was so cheap I was afraid it would rust but so far ...
I've literally forget these in a bucket filled with water and sanitizer several times after cleaning my tank. No rust! I have well water that is very hard and rust just about everything and we have to use only certain cleaning agents in my home to keep things rust free (toliet bowl, the shower, the sink, you name it!) And thus far, these hardy tools have survived without any extra measures.
My only complaint is I wish they were a little longer as I still get my hands wet when using them in the tank. That just seems petty to mention but it's the truth!
Wow, I took a chance on these because they were priced very attractively. I;ve had some real doozies following this approach on amazon with chinese knick-knacks like this. For example, the electric fly swatter that almost seemed to energize the fly instead of killing it. This one is not like that. The quality looks good, it comes with a nice pouch feels sturdy and well made and I would recommend.
This aquascaping set isn't even worth the low price point in my opinion. It's sufficient for general use of caring and cleaning a tank, but not ideal for live plants... Or maybe I just got a lemon batch? PROS: - Purchased 2-3 months ago and no signs of rust or corrosion, no issues with black finish chipping/peeling off. I do thoroughly wipe the tools dry after each use. - Substrate rake/pusher is the best piece in set, works great and serves it's purpose well. - Set includes a nice quality microfiber drawstring bag and little silicone bands & caps to protect tool form and tips. CONS: - Curved scissors are fairly useless. There's an open gap between the blades when closed and open. It's impossible to manicure smaller plants. The finger holes are yuge with no grip or anchor notch. I have fairly large hands for a female and even my monster-size Hubs had a hard time gripping them. - Both straight and curved forceps are quite flimsy, especially the tips also not fitting flush. The inner sides are etched for gripping, but still hardly gets the job done. You have to squeeze the tweezers very close to the tips in order to grasp an object, defeating the purpose of long tools.
* If you're serious about getting into the beautiful and highly addictive hobby of planted aquariums - I do not recommend this set and definitely would spend the extra cash for better quality steel & construction
These tools are wonderful! I can’t believe how much easier it has been to care for my terrariums. I used to clumsily knock things over while trimming, trying to use chopsticks and kitchen scissors to trim, place, and clean. It takes a fraction of the time to do these things now and it’s much more precise. I especially like the 2 shapes of tweezers. The scored grips on the ends are awesome, too. I’ve been picking up tiny, slippery river stones with ease!
My first legit aquascaping tools! They are just long enough that only my fingers get a little wet when moving things around in my tank (10 gal). The bent forceps are the best and make planting things so easy. Also love the little storage bag the set comes with. Just bought a second pair as a christmas gift to my friend who recently set up a new aquarium.
