I read about bad tracking but I also heard it has been updated so I figured let's give it a shot. The tracking is still absolutely horrible. If you play any shooter game you will most definitely miss shots due to the tracking. The tracking is so bad that I will be returning it and getting an oculus rift s instead. Additionally, after 2 hours of total use my headset would not have anything on the screen. Vive console said it needed to be restarted which I did, no luck. I tried different usb ports I tried different display ports eventually somehow ? It started displaying an image. Then I got a message saying it was not tracking. Still haven't fixed that and won't bother. The reason I went with this over the rift s in the first place because I did not want a Facebook product in my home. Especially not one with 5 plus cameras but HTC has left me no choice.
This was my first VR headset that I have been waiting for since I heard about it over 8 months ago. I have had it only for a day and I have got to say that it's awesome. There is very little flaws that I have noticed. It took me about 45 minutes to set up due to the fact that there were errors on software installation and having to find a USB port that would work for me since I have a lot of ports taken up. But it all comes down to money. If you have the money and want a good VR headset this is totally worth it.
For those that say the tracking is messed up, its not. Its probably there setup or not enough lighting.
I don't know if the other reviewer are VR first timer but I got this HMD and I own VR headset since 2016. Overall quality is good but for now, the tracking is broken and is not on par with cheaper headset.
I will update if they fix it but get a Rift S or an index for now. I truly hope they will roll out a software update to fix it! At this point not even sure if the tracking is even fixable due to the use of RGB camera for tracking.
Cord is stiff and heavy like the thickest vacuum cleaner cord but sticky rubber.
Optics? were terrible. I could never find a spot that focused except for the dead centre of the lens after I adjusted the headset again. The uncoated Fresnel lenses cause chromatic colour aberrations so bad small text could not be read in the steamVR library on the menus due to colour diffraction.
Screen door effects were no better than the older Vive headsets or even the Oculus Go at $200
Compatibility? Some games are OK but others ask for buttons that don't exist and help menus have arrows that point to the air. Not really ready for market yet.
Controllers? Too short and hard to handle. Some games require you to jump by clicking down on the top of the joysticks. This is almost impossible without pulling the trigger buttons simultaneously without the controllers sliding out of your hand with their too short, wedge shape, and no grip type materials.
Heat? After an hour your eyes will be dried out and cooked. There is no ventilation and with the nose blinds it is sealed to the display heat.
SteamVR is being driven out with VivePort they are attempting to force on us. SteamVR will not function without the adaption drivers installed via VivePort. No installation without VivePort.
Tracking? Never had a problem and it seemed to work well. Controller batteries are short lived. Expect to get some rechargeables or go through 4 x AA cells every few days.
** Not recommended.** Get a previous version of Vive or any Oculus. I returned mine for credit. Amazon.ca is good about it.
This is a flawed product. From bad design (RGB camera instead of IR for insideout tracking), broken software, and bad ergonomics. Do not buy. Check the vive subreddit for the horror stories. Inferior to 200$ mixed reality headsets. Much inferior to current Rift-S. Do not buy.
I have a powerful laptop with NVidia GTX 2080 GPU, I9 processor, and 64 GB ram.
I originally purchased the headset because I wanted a lighthouse free headset. I read about the Tracking issues when playing games but because I am not using it for games or activities that required fast or drastic movement I didn't care. the Issue I am having is that after 5 minutes of use, the headset screen turns black for a few seconds repeatedly and it becomes unusable. I wish there was an option to return the headset back and exchange it for another. I have used the HTV Vive pro and HTV Vive on the same laptop and no issues there. Also, the display is supposed to have better resolution than the other HTCs but I just don't see this as it is very poor in comparison.
Just really deceived that right off it was not working for the controllers in lots of things I am using and field of view could be better, also the light it takes to have it working (headset to track) .. but image quality is really good and cant wait to see what HTC will do to get it better
As soon as I received this product I had a difficult time setting it up, but as soon as I figured out how it worked the vr machine it was a lovely product to use. Firstly, the screen was clear and fit my head perfectly. Next, the sound quality the head phones offer is great, it helped create a greater experience while playing with high volume games such as beats Saber. This product was a great early Christmas gift for my son and my daughter. Overall this product is great! It has many features as well as games.
Absolutely a bad product. For this price you better think to anther VR or wait for the next generation. The render is horrible, the calibration is a nightmare and isn't easy.Made for playing game made for in steam or vive.Don't even touch it.
Tracking not very good, not supported by a number of games including those on the HTV Viveport. The sweet spot is very small causing you to have to turn your head to see thing clearly not just glance left/right/up/down.
