This is the one that finally solved the problem of destroyed furniture and doorframes. Both cats love it and are easily redirected back to this post when they get curious somewhere else. Great purchase worth the investment.
This is the 2nd Ultimate scratching post I’ve ordered as I was happy to notice it in grey. The other can go in the downstairs as we have 2 cats and maybe each prefers their own. That one was purchased 3 years ago and the sisal is only beginning to show very minor signs of fraying.
But what I really like most about this cat scratching post is after years of wasting money on others this one is so solid. Our one finicky cat isn’t large but if she detected the slightest bit of sway or movement on the prior smaller scratching posts, that was it, she wouldn’t go near them ever again. That’s probably why the solid arm of the couch was her preference until this proved the ultimate solution. Definitely recommended!
Easy to assemble, Looks great, sturdy, tall, cats started using it day one. Time will tell if the expensive cost is worth it in terms of the durability of the scratching material but I love the colour and am happy with the purchase.
Oct 20th, 2020: Still looks great, no noticeable wear! The cats love how tall it is they can do standing stretches while scratching
The holy grail of cat scratchers! Where has this been all my life?? Have a jerk of a cat that refused every tree or pole I ever bought... and I’m talking thousands of $$$ worth. He preferred all the leather furniture. Finally, I’ve found one he’ll use!! This thing is tall, heavy, well built. He hasn’t even knocked it over yet. (He’s 18lbs of solid, muscled wildcat.) Bought two more. ;)
This was a bit more than I wanted to spend on a scratching post given how quickly my cat has destroyed her old ones, but this ended up being worth the risk. Took her awhile to take to it (I actually had to “train” her to use it), but once she caught on, she absolutely loves it! The base is big and sturdy, the material is very durable, and the whole thing is tall enough that she can get a nice stretch while scratching.
Also, for those concerned about the big sticker on the base that a lot of people are complaining about not being able to cleanly remove, all that’s required to overcome that particular obstacle is for you to switch your brain to the ON position before assembling. The sticker is thoughtfully placed on the UNDERSIDE of the base (the side that goes against the floor), so there is no need to remove it. Just have a sip or two of coffee and/or do some deep breathing and, with a little luck, you should be able to figure it out.
I have a big 15lb cat. He loves this post most out of any I have bought him. Hes able to stretch to the top to get a good scratch in, without it tipping over. I may purchase another to have in different rooms of the house.
Very good quality and easy to assemble. It’s pretty big and stands out in the room though. Unfortunately my cat didn’t like it so I returned it. I was hoping to save my poor dinning room chairs from any more destruction but no luck. I gave it a 4 because my cat didn’t like it but if your cat does and you don’t mind how big it is, it’s a good product.
This scratching post isn't as good as I thought it would be from the other reviews. The paint was already chipping from the top when I pulled it out of the box. It wobbles even when the base was securely installed, and worst of all, the manufacturer put a really hard to remove ugly sticker on the base. I spent over an hour trying to peel it off.
Overall it looks better than a lot of other scratching posts on the market and my cat took to it right away. The material of the actual scratcher looks like it will hold up.
