I had the old ipad 4 which i have now given to my grandson, the battery life on it far outlasts the battery on this new model,i recon the battery life on this model is up to 5 hours,i dont know where they get up to 10 hours from, thats rubbish, its a nice easy to use tablet and much better to use than an android tablet which i have a few,i went for this 128gb model at £400,im waiting for a protective cover for it,i only give this model 2 stars on value for money and the model because of the battery usage although it does get 3 stars for easy to use,my old ipad 4 the built microphone stopped working which is a common fault on these ipads, shame on you apple for that but i use a good android phone for photos and videos so this wont be getting use for that, the worst thing about about this new ipad is connectivity to my wifi, this is appauling although my old ipad 4 and mobile phone have no trouble,i sometimes have to keep hitting the connect button over and over,my cheap android phone android tablets and old ipad 4 had no trouble, another problem is the screen rotation, sometimes it wont turn so i have to switch it on and off, screen brightness keeps going high then low, screen rotation also locks a lot so i have to turn it on and off to reset it,,disgusting for a £400 tablet, last apple product i will ever buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The device has a beautiful screen and an excellent build quality, as is to be expected from Apple. The device replaced a five year old iPad. I was looking forward to see what the new OS and hardware was like, and I wasn't disappointed so far after 6 months of ownership.
Multitasking, pen support, use of the iPad as a desktop extension with iMac and of course excellent performance in a polished package. Battery life is excellent, I use the device several hours a day and sometime even find the device still running in the morning after falling asleep whilst watching something.
The device also came with a free 1 year AppleTV+ subscription at the time of purchase. Whilst the AppleTV+ service is still ints infancy, the AppleTV app is a good aggregator of other online services used on the device, showing suggestions from Amazon Prime, UK TV players (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, 5), and allowing you to jump to the corresponding app to pick up a program where you left it or watch something new. This is a nice app from this perspective, and it has become my media hub.
My favourite feature is really the pen functionality. it is a powerful and useful feature, but it doesn't come close to Ms Surface pen implementation in my humble opinion. But why should it? It is not aimed at the same audience. I use a no name pen to annotate documents or create quick diagrams using Microsoft OneNote, for this purpose the device is perfectly fit for purpose.
The only feature I am missing is the ability to manage my apps screens from my desktop PC, which meant quite a lot time spent re arranging app icons one by one when I set up the device.
The capacity is not enough to accommodate a large amount of data. 32GB is not the free capacity available out of the box. The operating system and pre-installed apps already use quite a bit of this space. Install a few apps, download a few songs and you will have only a couple of GBs left, barely enough to download 1 movie ahead of a trip. This is not an issue for me, but this is something to be aware of.
I really enjoy using this device and am very happy with my purchase. I would therefore recommend this model but only if like me you only work/play in the cloud, anything more you'll need one of the higher capacity models.
Garbage performance. If you're gonna buy an ipad and want to game on it, get the ipad air at least.
Also disgusting that the only way I could get my bandcamp purchased music (110gb worth, so a lot) was to redownload all of it on my PC in ALAC format because apple doesn't have any codecs for WAV or FLAC, add to itunes, connect the ipad, and sync it all.
A lot of hoops to jump thru. Didnt like the app store because a lot of good games are being released on apple arcade and not available for a single purchase, so you have to subscribe to it.
Also didn't like the apple music app is now a service only to apple music. There isn't a built in music app to play your own downloaded files. You have to find some trashy music player on the app store and use that or use a workaround like VLC player.
The charger it comes with is only 12W PD, and takes forever to charge it.
All in all a bad experience. Assuming I had bought the ipad air and spent extra money for a charger that actually chargers the air fast, then I might have had a better experience.
If I'm gonna get any tablet in the future I'm just gonna get the latest Samsung S6 or whatever they next release. Way better functionality and way better value for money and the charger it comes with actually fast charges.
So if you need an ipad and want to game.. air at least or the pro. Not this. This is trash.
Bought as a Christmas present. Unfortunately the first one went missing during delivery but Amazon sent another out right away. I didn't receive it until after Christmas and although disappointed, after the receiver couldn't make his mind up if he wanted a new iPad or not, therefore I had started the return process then had to cancel the return process. Amazon were brilliant and VERY patient! The receiver of the iPad (almost to his head😏) is now VERY pleased and it seems to have been given the 👍. I got a fairly good deal when I bought it. The screen size is so much bigger and picture much clearer than his older iPad.
