I feel there is very little I can add to the reviews already posted except to say that I have been a fan of Michael's music for most of my life, firstly from his time in The Monkees then around 1981 I discovered his solo works. I have every one of his albums in one form or another including the other live ones and this is one of the best. His playing is excellent throughout (something which seems to have gone downhill in recent years) and of course Red Rhodes is always excellent. All the chatting between songs is here including fluffed starts. The one downside to this is the tape on the original recording ran out just before the end of the final song (Silver Moon). Just think, if only Michael had not made the false start on "The Upside Of Goodbye" or perhaps chatted less, the song would have been complete. Still, this is a minor point and in no way is a complaint about this release which is as we've come to expect from 7A Records, absolute quality and shows other larger companies out there how releases should be handled. Now, if only I could borrow the tardis so I could ask Nez to chat less....
Fantastic album, having received it today I’m completely blown away by Nez’s singing and his band. I am a huge fan of his and have seen him “live” many times. He is such a talented man. His voice is so pure and his guitar playing is fantastic. His interaction with the audience on this cd is warm and very funny and it comes through how warm he is. I urge people to give it a listen.
There are great performances here and it is a testimony to steel guitar hero Red Rhodes but there is a lot of banter from Nez and an interview as well. There’s only about 40 minutes music on it and the concert ends abruptly as the original tape did before the enhanced work was done.
Having been a fan of Michael Nesmith for fifty years I am familiar with all of his music (and his books). This recording originally made in 1973 is a perfect example of his talent and how well he and Red Rhodes played together. The music Is marvellous and it is interspersed by commentary from Nez, reminding us what an amusing and intelligent man he is.
This is a must for every Nesmith fan and for others who appreciate music being played live in simple and effective form. An excellent cd.
