I got this to replace a v slicer that has worked wonderfully for around 15 years. I tried to make a salad and it had trouble cutting a cucumber. Tried a radish. That worked but left a big chunk that it didn't cut. Tried some red and yellow mini peppers. They kind of worked but left a lot uncut. May have to return this and get another old faithful. Also with the storing of the blades, you have to remove them all before you use it or you will be washing them all. My other v slicer still works but no longer looks good and the guard has kind of fallen apart.
Update: I just sent myself to the emergency room for slicing my finger pretty darn good. 4 stitches. Apparently the ER doctor says these types of slicers are pretty dangerous. They said the highest amount of injuries come from using this kitchen type tool. So buy some of those steel mesh gloves . 😁 Original message: I really like how this is designed. Everything fits neatly together and it is all in one place. The one I had before this had separate pieces and I didn't like the way the blades were stored. So I'm really happy about that.
It also works really well. I love that I can use it on most of the bowls that I have which means I can switch from one vegetable to another without having to wipe the container I am currently using.
I have been cooking a lot more at home during the pandemic and this just makes it so much easier. One of my least favorite things to do is to prepare vegetables for recipes because it is time consuming. Really glad I have this to do the majority of the work. Plus it is easy to clean which is an added bonus.
I bought this mandoline based on experience with other excellent Mueller products and the favorable comments for this one. What a disappointment. Very ineffective product. The grating feature is so poor, it is almost dangerous. My cheap little OXO fixed blade mandoline is much better than this.
This is a purchase I regret - I've used this maybe three times and now it's in the donation box. It's very hard to use, vegetables don't really stay in place in the slider and slices pile up in one spot and quickly clog the bin. It's dangerous, because you end up struggling to make the slices and you know this is not a good sign, as you could slip and injure yourself. It's one of those "opposite of a joy to use" products that just isn't designed that well. I recommend buying a professional and metal mandoline instead of this plastic thing.
Too much hard work. It would have been easier of it allowed the veggies to be chopped into proper shapes by upside down chops instead of having to do back and forth slicing motions plus it doesn't hold veggies in place so its very incipient. My mother's old metal slicer board can do the same job and can handle bigger veggies/fruits. Its same amount of manual labor involved. I was looking for convenience not complicated, plastic version of same thing
I was so excited for a mandolin type slicer that came with a storage container and some other fun blades. I knew I mostly wanted to slice cucumbers. This thing is so dull it barely got through them. I tried cheese on a different blade and it just smushed the cheese - didn’t shred it. I tried it a few times and will probably throw it out soon. Useless!
Blades are difficult to get on & off the way they are placed on the unit for storage. Think there is a safety factor here to be considered. Believe the plastic unit could be easily broken when enough required force is used in handling the individual blades.
I dehydrate a lot. One of the first things I used this for was for zucchini. Long planks were impossible and I had to balance the top of the mandolin on another bowl to be able to get what I needed. Ended up fairly disappointed with the product.
I cut my finger pretty bad on this. The tray moves back and forth as I move the food back and forth. Wish it had some kind of suction thing underneath so it would be sturdy. The variety of cuts is nice and I like how it comes out, just be careful!
