You probably really don't need to buy a book for your new Kalimba, there are so many tutorial videos online but that doesn't mean this is a bad book. It was a good price and it is really easy to read - and thats coming from someone that doesn't read music. I have to admit I don't know a fair few of the songs in here but it is still nice to learn new things and once you've got the hang of it all, they sound pretty good. I've started making my own notes on the pages to adapt it to my learning style but really, it is very simple.
Watch the video someone has put up. This is what you get; no more than a few bars of music for each tune. Absolutely useless and going back as I would like to be able to play a complete tune. It doesn’t have to be a symphony but a bit more than a few lines of music would be a start.
It was disappointing, no chords are used and they don’t use Kalimba tab’s either, however I do think if you have a young child then these simple tunes might be nice to keep them busy, however I don’t think it’s at all challenging enough for anyone wanting to make progress.
I am a musician with a degree in music and play 5 instruments. I had seen the Kalimba but never bought one! I bought one for me and my husband, who only plays the radio!! He went crazy for it. I found it a tad challenging. I then ordered one for my daughter, her husband, my brother and his wife so that we could have a family band at the campground - it was GREAT!! Many of my family are musicians, but anyone, even without musical training can learn this easily and will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Our parrot loves to hear it - almost puts him into hypnosis it is so beautiful!! Great thing for a child over the age of 9 - 10, I say that as a teacher of music to kids!! Buy the book too.
