Everything I write about Grace Draven is biased because my rose colored glasses are glued to my face when it comes to her and 3 other authors!!! This is a flawless second book in the Fallen Empire series, followed on so well from the first book, just sad the last page has been read!!! I could go on about all the characters and how well I fell into the story but I'm not good at that, find out for yourself how fantastic a storyteller Grace is!! I'd give this 10 stars if I could.
I love Grace Draven's books, I just wish that they were all also available in paperback version instead of kindle. This book is the sequal to Phoenix Unbound. This is Halani, the magical trader healer's story. Halani, helps a wounded man at a fair, not realising that Malachus is in fact a Draga (dragon) in human guise. Malachus a 400 year old dragon is unable to turn into his dragon form because he needs what in called the 'motherbond' in order to do so i.e. a bespelled claw of his mother, and he has been tracking 2 men who stole the claw from its hiding place. The dreadful Empress is also after the motherbond as she wants another dragon skeleton to hang over her bed and wants to be healed from her wounds. Lovely read.
It was an interesting further instalment in this 'empire' series. The main characters are well-developed, but their thoughts and fears become a bit repetitive sometimes. The action could have proceeded at a brisker pace, but well-written as always.
I was eagerly anticipating this sequel and was not disappointed. The lead characters are different from the first book but the original pair do feature so you get to hear a little more about how they are getting on. Loved it!
I literally couldn't put the book down till it was finished. There are so many layers into the story and characters that while you want to know what happens, you also want more details. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Dragon Unleashed was another breath-takingly beautiful, fantastic and unputdownable must read in the Fallen Empire series. This story had less angst, darkness and action than the previous book and concentrated instead more on the slow burn romance between the hero and heroine. It was a character-driven tale about love and loss, family bonds and friendships and about embracing who you are. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Grace Draven's exceptional talent never ceases to amaze me. She is truly in a league of her own. Her story telling is so captivating and poignant and always manages to reach the deepest recesses of my heart and soul. I've adored Halani the healer and Malachus the draga who were both remarkable and endearing characters. Now I'm waiting with baited breath for the last book - Raven Unveiled.
Grace Draven never disappoints. Her ability to bring to life the characters in her stories is what makes her stories so special. While some authors focus only on main characters, Grace brings them ALL to life. And by doing so, adds such depth to her stories that they become real.
I can't say enough great things about this book. I didn't even mind the brevity of the Dragons part of the story, because it wasn't missed. I sure hope there's a sequel and we see all these wonderful stories come to life again. Thanks for anorher wonderful book!
