To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Well this sure ain't rowdy and the only thing rough is Bob's voice! The Bard is still the, repeat THE, master of words / lyrics though.......................so if only there was some passion in the delivery I could easily overlook that roughness of voice. But where has all the passion / energy in singing / delivering them gone? I have every album of BD's from his first through to Slow Train Coming (and bought them as they were released, which I am afraid pretty much gives away my age), and then a sprinkling of a few after that up till this latest one, and this one is certainly far far from his best, or even far from his best of the last forty odd years! I had hoped it would grow on me, but alas it has had the opposite effect. As for side two, sure a great story, but delivered poorly. Want to feel what it might have been, rough voice and all, just go listen to say Desolation Row, Caribbean Wind, Sarah, Joey, Hurricane, Idiot Wind, Tweeter and the Monkey Man, etc, and compare to this mediocrity.
Anyone who rates this five stars must be a real newcomer to Dylans art.
I have no idea why this album got good reviews. Worst Album Bob Dylan has ever released IMO. The die hard fans will probably love it all the same. I do own a lot of Bob Dylans albums and none of the except Rough and Ready disapointed.
