A well written action packed story. Dorina is my favourite series from this author. I enjoyed catching up with old favourites from the first books and new characters. A couple of editing issues but they didn't detract from the flow of the story. However I did not like being left with a cliff-hanger ending! Can't wait for the next book.
As ever Karen Chance has written a fast-paced action-packed adventure. In Queen's Gambit we get a deeper insight into what makes Dorina tick, and what makes Dory kick, punch and fight for the those she loves even as she tries to save herself. Some great twists and turns too keeping this series alive.
This reads like it was going to be a longer book, but the author couldn't finish it by the deadline so we ended up with only a smaller chunk of story than intended. It also ends with a major cliffhanger.
This is a short story about Dory and Louis Cesare in Egypt and Hong Kong, and a separate short story about Dorina and Ray in Fairy, sandwiched into one book. There are parts that drag like a travel show, a food review channel, action movie, or historical sightseeing tour. There was a lot of set up, but not much getting done. Dory and Dorina each encountered a similar wise older character that provided exposition, and they both assembled a group to accompany them ... and... that's the end. It seems like the meat of the story will be in the next book.
Louis Cesare and Dory are cute together, but their scenes were getting really repetitive. They had the same talk at least four times. She doesn't want to be protected, but he wants to protect her. And again, she doesn't want to be protected, but he wants to protect her. Back and forth. Back and forth. Boring. I hope the couples in these series can stop having the same argument over and over again and we can get some development.
Because the new stuff is amazing. Now that Dorina is holding the reins, she tells Ray about her experiences and her views on the shared life she had with Dory and its so fresh and exciting to read! You just want to hug her and smoosh her face! Mircea owes her a big apology! This book hints at Dorina having creepy fey-god powers but I don't really like where this is going... guess we'll see how it all works out when she catches up with her mum!
The next book can't come quickly enough! Dory and Dorina need a resolution!
I'm always happy when another Dory book comes out. She's one of my favourite characters.
Every book is a blast and this one was no different.
I purchased the paper copy of this as trying to give my eyes a break from computer screens and this one is a door stop. It comes in trade as it's published through amazon not a mass market from a publishing company. On the other hand the font is a more reasonable size.
As always I'm looking forward to the next book especially since this one was a bit cliff hangery.
I didn't expect another Dorina Basarab book, i thought her story finished so i was very happy this came out. I loved it, it really moves the story of Dory and Dorina in good direction, just wish i could read the next one right now.
This series just gets better! How am I going to be able to wait for the next book. I love how the characters are growing and developing.I really love Ray. Don't start with this book please start at the beginning you won't regret it.
Loves this book. Didn’t realise this had come out and knew I needed it. I have been following this series from the start. Great writing and story. This story grips you and makes you want to keep reading. Areas when you laugh and other areas where you just want to scream. Recommend
An Egyptian themed adventure for Dory and Louis, including a brief trip to a Hong Kong still reeling from the events of Dragon's Claw is paired with the beginning of a separate quest for Dorina in Faerie. Lots to enjoy and the next instalment nicely set up.
I love every book that Karen Chance has written it’s like Christmas to be able to get her latest. Dory/Dorian is my favourite character of all but I would love another book about Mircea. Queen’s Gambit has lived up to and excelled all of my expectations. I read all of Karen Chance’s books time and again. They ROCK.
