I think this book is quite well written, easy to read yet still has much to take away from, I read a lot of books like this, and while no idea is original now anymore, it doesn't feel like it's just a compilation of tips from other books, I really enjoyed reading it and putting some of the things outlined in the book into practice. I would recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 starsDidn’t find anything new here

The central message of simplifying your life is a valid one. But I found the book empty, cliched and overselling itself. I was playing pop psychology bingo by the end of the first chapter. “Unburden your heart”, “get rid of your toxic thought patterns”, “look for easier solutions”. Bored by the end of the second chapter. Maybe things get better after that but I doubt it. Perhaps a book for those who haven’t read any self development books before, but I didn’t find any new ideas here.

Very well written and the section summaries are a great idea. To make my life easier I need to work with a few others to get the way we work together easier, this book would be a good way to bring up.

This is such an important book for the times we're living in. I loved Essentialism, love the What's Essential podcast, and found so much gold in Effortless! It's an easy read with so much to take in, I'll be reading it again soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to do more with less - More time, less effort

“Effortless” is the follow up to the excellent book “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown.

In a world where we are often overwhelmed, stressed and seem to rush from place to place, where we are expected to worship the “hustle culture”. In “Essentialism” Greg explains how you can do more, by doing less.

For example, have you ever been to a meeting that was a total waste of time, but somebody who didn’t go asks you, “so what happened?’ And you explain the meeting in 30 seconds. That person is an Essentialist.

In “Effortless” Greg carries on the same theme. I should point out, while this is “part 2” there is no duplication and in fact this is just a well researched. Each chapters has a moral to the story and Greg walks you through a metaphor, in his storytelling. The book is easy to read, with a shed load of “mike drop” moments.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Effortless Read

This book certainly lived up to its title. Greg has written a very practical book that is really easy to read. Like his previous book, Essentialism, it is well structured and contains valuable insights right to the end (unlike so many business books that have all the value in the first third of the book and the rest is padding!). I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking to make life easier while still achieving the essentials.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this book

I enjoyed Essentialism, and Effortless follows the same format: sections broken into short chapters with reviews at the end. While not everything in this book is relevant to me, or what I personally needed to hear, there are a few ideas that I have put into practice. I would recommend it to anyone who feels a bit overwhelmed, or that they're not getting the time to fulfil their potential.

Liked Greg's previous book and thought I'd dive in. The book started great, although it got stuck a little in the middle and lost it's way, or so I thought. Sections felt a little cliched. Glad I stuck with it as it improved and there are some real gems in the book. Worth a read.
