5.0 out of 5 starsA scary world
Reviewed in Australia on 19 October 2021
During lockdown I have read dozens of who dunnits. This was another one - although there was no butler and it was much more complex. As a result of reading it I have learned:
1. We live in a scary world where much is happening that we did not know about.
2. It is difficult to know who to trust. Scientists are shown to be self serving not scientific, journalists are taken in by lies, - where can we get information from.
3. America is a mess. Agencies meant to protect the world are controlled by people whose interest is in survival, not truth. Trade agreements are more important than truth. Hatred of Trump skews everything and Biden,s America is unravelling.
4. Scott Morrison and Australia come out looking better than most because they took a stand.
5. The idea that China is getting stronger and more powerful is frightening.
Thanks to Ms Markson for her hard work on this book. It was hard for a non scientist to read but she did a good job making complex material accessible to people like me.
It doesn’t take the hurt out of lockdown but at least I now know what caused it. And I am concerned about the safety of the world my grandchildren will inherit.

Shari Markson has done the world a great favour by investigating all aspects of the release of the Covid virus.
I thought I knew a lot, but this page turner was full of new facts. Well worth the read!

Wanted to read all about it before it appeared in the media. It arrived after and I have lost interest in it now. May never read it.

1.0 out of 5 stars The author doesn't understand difference between a virus and a bacterium.

Quite enjoyed the first few pages of this on my kindle until I came across this:

" Dimon....contracted tuberculosis at seven, the VIRAL infection took her to the brink of death."

Tuberculosis is caused by a bacterium NOT a virus. A little further on it goes " a doctor....stole antibiotics from the hospital, saving her life". This further compounds the error since antibiotics are completely ineffectual against viruses.
This a sloppy blunder from an author who surely needs at least lower school knowledge of microbiology to be able to write authoritatively about the SARS Covid virus. I lost the will after this.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Evidence.

I should never have bought this book. I was expecting some evidence. Unfortunately, the author tells stories of so called "whistleblowers". There is no way to check the sources. It seems to me that all these stories she writes about are more or less simply fabricated. The only thing that can be assumed to be safe is that she made a lot of money from this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars How credible is this book?
Reviewed in the United States on 3 January 2022

I just bought the Kindle version and started to read, and I already see reasons for concern. Especially when a controversial matter is concerned, credibility must be established at the very outset, and how credible is a book where right away in chapter 1, the birth year of Dimon Liu changes 3 times? First, it is stated that her mother was pregnant with her in 1953, which would mean that she was born in 1953 or 1954. Then, “…in 1958, when Dimon was 6…”, which would put her birth year in 1952 (or even 1951). And then, “… when Dimon was 11… she was put on a train to Hong Kong… it was 1963…”, which would put her birth year also in 1952 or 1951. And lastly, "...she celebrated her 70th birthday in September of 2020...", which would put her birth year in 1950. So, which is it? 1954, 1953, 1952, 1951 or 1950? At the very least, the book was poorly edited, there are also plenty of grammatical errors. And the author fictionalizes dialogues between people that she cannot possibly be quoting first hand, rather than simply recounting them. To me, all these things impugn credibility. I am not sure I will not simply return the Kindle book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money

Right leaning writer who makes many accusations without substantiating her comments with footnotes or documented sources. Not at all objective. Even casts doubts on Fauci and Francis Collins.

If in US would be a definite Trump supporter.

I'm sure there are better books out there.
