5.0 out of 5 starsHumanity Will Persevere
Reviewed in Australia on 27 February 2022
The Expanse story has been and is, by all means an unequivocal collection of ideas and themes that define Humanity on such fundamental terms. Especially as a space faring civilisation. I am still hoping and grasping for more to this story as I simply cannot let it go. But I know it must end. To this final note for this story then, I say: I am grateful for the cinematic truth and poetry and prose that was uncovered, the characters that reflect us in such raw realism, and for the final feeling being a conclusion that we in the real world as Humanity, as a single collective; have a profound duty laid upon us, the mantle of responsibility. And that we will affirm our commitment to being champions of peace and progress. This may sound very cringe and cheesy but I was reminded about all this when reading through this finale. If I can just also mention that there was an emotional end I was hoping for and glad into how it worked out and astonished as well. I cannot wait for the real world to catch up (in our own actual version) to visiting the stars and whatever lies beyond or whom.

1.0 out of 5 stars WHY ORBIT???
Reviewed in Australia on 25 June 2022

Rating is purely on the size of the book. The Series is a fantastic read.
Orbit books please tell me WHY for the love of God you would release an entire series of books all the same size, looking very ascetically pleasing on the shelf, then release the last book that's so much larger?? Did someone forget the size of the previous 8 books?? This has well and truly triggered my OCD and I'm unable to even place the book on the shelf with the others. It shall be banished to the shelf of shame.

Better than book 8, but really not that good for a series finale. Tanaka was a waste, no real answers, and poorly scripted. Found myself skimming chapters as they were obviously fillers. Couldn't really care about any of the crew. The ending felt like university students rushing the conclusion of a term paper... by the numbers but not living up to their potential.

Glad it's over, especially since the last two books were empty space. Disappointing end to a great series.

Couldn't read this. The assertion that cruelty to children is a result of societies that are aggressively individualistic smacks of incomplete analysis and/or ideological bias. I'm not interested in poorly formulated social theory in my science fiction. Social commentary, based on reality, sure. Always been what SF does best. If this appeals however you may well enjoy this book, as it is otherwise high quality - good character development and great plot.

It is a bittersweet ending to The Expanse. Can honestly say the authors bring it home for a nice landing. Slow build up but it runs at a breakneck pace to the finish line.

The mind bending and brilliant conclusion to the trials of Naomi, Amos, Alex and Jim had me hanging on every sentence. The perfect reward for all who have lived The Expanse from its inception.

It brought everything together and ended in a way that only Holden can provide. Highly recommend the book and the series as a whole. Go Amos!
