Hal finds himself in a lot of trouble again, partly because he doesn’t understand women. Somehow, Tatiana gets herself assigned to a ship in the same squadron as him but they never seem to have the time to talk. His mother and sister are also in the same squadron which means that he’s happy but also worried that something will happen to all the people that he cares most about. In fact he has never had so many people in his life who he cares about and who care about him. The Alon are the most ruthless force that he has ever come across and it becomes obvious that Yansden needs to be evacuated sooner rather than later. He still has to get to Maglan and free the Sansein Mother while fighting her captor. Before he can think of doing that he comes face to face with the Alon emperor and is forced to allow Elise to become a hostage while the emperor’s cousin goes with him. To complicate matters he then finds himself in the presence of the Sansein Shadow Council and only escapes with his life when they accept that he is genuine in his wish to free the Mother. Battles on land and battles in space! A good space opera. Is there more ahead for the Last Reaper? We’ll obviously have to wait and see.
Have read the entire series from start to finish with no interruptions. Most of the books I rated a 4, a few a 3, but as with many things the whole is better than what makes it The ending came quick, much to my surprise, as some.books seemed the drag on(the 3*s) and some of the side stories have been left completely open ended. What's happening to Path, or Cain's mother and sister, did Honor survive, did he go back to Alon Even with all of these unanswered questions, the series was a real rollercoaster ride of survival, conquest, winning and losing. For those that enjoy a fast paced high octane adventure, this is a series of books well worth reading. If you find the odd book slow as I did, stick with it, it really is worth the effort
Thoroughly enjoyed this entire series! Action, adventure, snark, humor and attitude made for excellent reading! I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves a good space battle! The reason I gave it 4 stars is because I'm so fed up with authors who don't think they need ARC readers or maybe need to change the ARC readers they do have!
Spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors in every book but it was still a good enough opera to keep me until the end! The point is, if this is your livelihood and/or craft, you need to excel at it and do better! There is no excuse for any of this. Do better, authors. Do better!
The Alon Emperor continues to wage war on Cain and the others. The sandwich als byo put in an appearance. He finds out that silver phoenix is black Phoenix's brother. A delegation meets with the Alon president and Elise is take as a hostage while they broker a suspension of active warfare... Meanwhile the plans to rescue mother are set in motion... Only time will tell how successful their plan is... Some space battles, some armed combat and plenty of action occurr....
The Last Reaper is one of my favorite series in the Renegade Star Universe. The banter between X-37 and Halek Cain balanced the violence and action with levity along the way. The relationships that have grown, kept it from becoming stale. The conclusion of Halek's mission to find peace was very satisfying. I would keep reading books in this series as long as the author's keep writing them.
Oh wow! I picked up the beginning of this series just a few short weeks ago and raced with the Reaper across galaxies. The best review I can offer goes like this: Join the Reaper and his team, travel to interesting places, meet fascinating characters, enjoy stimulating battles that include cool science and technology concepts, kill a few bad guys, make new friends and create a utopia. What more can you ask for?
I loved this series. I don't read series, ever! This one just, somehow, kept coming and I kept reading to the end. I enjoyed every book, felt every character to be real and became so immersed i was lost in another world. Great writing and plotting guys. I don't regret buying or reading these books! Thank you!
