My Echo Show 5 - 2nd Generation worked perfectly so I bought the larger Echo Show 8 - 2nd Generation; but this Echo Show 8 stopped working after only one month when the device froze on the last background nature scene. After restarting, the background nature pictures changed for about five minutes and then my Echo Show 8 froze again on the last nature scene, making this Amazon device useless. I have read on Amazon customer forums that this freezing of the Amazon Echo Show is a common problem.

I was contacted by Amazon representative Chandrasekhar on 24 July 2021, and was told that the problem with my frozen Echo Show 8 - 2nd Generation was a software problem and that Amazon was working on a software update which could take "coming months" to fix. At the end of August 2021, my Echo Show 8 announced a software update, but after installing it, the nature scene froze again after about 5 minutes operation. I have had no contact from Amazon asking whether my Echo Show 8 - 2nd Generation is working after the software update. I find this disappointing because I have been an Amazon customer since 2003 who has bought many hundreds of items from Amazon.

Since the Echo Show 8 was not working, I mothballed it and bought a Google Nest Hub with a 7-inch screen for the same price as the Echo Show 5. The Google machine has a superb picture and it is easier to use with finger swipes than the Amazon models.
